And once you are there you will realize ALL the Cyclades islands have whitewashed buildings, cliffs, and spectacular water views. While Naxos handles the beaches, Mykonos is better beach-wise than Santorini. In my experience Santorini is WAY more touristy than Mykonos even though Mykonos IS touristy. Santorini IS the view, and that's what sells it.
Around 1.7km from the archaeological site of Akrotiri is one of Santorini’s best-known swimming spots. As the name suggests, the Red Beach (Kokkini Paralia) is famous for the iron ore deposits in the volcanic rock face and the rust-coloured pebbles on the beach – although in reality there is a whole palette of colours on the beach.
Also Psarou is worth a stroll, it can be magnificent or Meh depending on the music. Psarou beach restaurant and Psarou mall with the lush gardens is worth a stroll, though just for window shopping for most of the people who can even afford Mykonos. The beach beds are VERY expensive, you can stay in the ones of the next beach bar.Questions: -Is it recommended to fly to Santorini the same day from Athens after going through customs? Should I book ahead, or book when I arrive? Is there a better way to do this? -Hotel recommendations on Santorini for ~$200/night for 3 nights? I’ve heard the cave hotels are an interesting experience. Worth the extra cost for romantic getaway?
Santorini? Worth it or not? What do people think about the luxury hotels in Santorini? Any recommendations? Already going to Greece and have Amanzoe booked, but debating on whether we add a few days to the tail end of the trip. Thanks! Vote. 0 comments. Best.Grace looks amazing! Thanks. Will definitely research this further, as it’s in our price range for Santorini. By far the most $$$ for any of our hotels in Greece but figure Santorini is a once in a lifetime visit. We had been looking at Astra next door to the Grace but they are now sold out so back to the drawing board.Though Santorini was beautiful, it was a little bit overwhelming with so many tourists and selfie sticks everywhere. My favorite was walking around Santorini right at sunrise; Oia was practically empty! Folegandros was the most authentic experience mainly because most of the people we encountered were older locals and they spoke mainly Greek.
We're thinking about going to Santorini on Sunday and returning Monday. I'm not really sure it is warm enough in March to worry about the beach. We're mostly interested in seeing the white-washed buildings and relaxing. What's making this complicated is a) no high speed ferries appear to run in March, so ferry time is too long for our short trip.aExeMwX.
