🎈 Is Santorini Worth It Reddit

I hate renting a car, and even I did it in Santorini. Buses suck (though it's less bad if you're staying in Fira) and taxis are outrageously expensive. Walking sucks too well, it doesn't suck because you can take in the scenery, but everything is far away. Cars and four-wheelers are like €30 or €35 per 24 hours.

We are currently considering Santorini for a week and then a few days in Athens, but heard it can get ridiculously busy especially in cruise ship season. With return flights to Europe around $3k AUD each, and Santorini accom well over 2k for the week, we're wondering if this is this is really the best spot for us or are there other (cheaper!)

Apr 22, 2023 · 1. Book a small rental car if possible. The roads around the island are busy in the summer months and can be very tight. 2. Use a rental agency that has good reviews and a pickup location that fits your schedule. You don’t want to have to pay for extra taxis just to get your rent a car on Santorini. 3.
Apr 21, 2016 · Summary. Overall we were very pleased with the lodging in Santorini and highly recommend a room on the cliff with a balcony to anyone traveling there. Yes, they can be expensive depending on your typical budget but it will be money well spent in our opinion. Dec 10, 2022 · From Ammoudi Bay. A tiny picturesque port at the foot of Oia, enclosed by impressive red cliffs, Ammoudi Bay is one of the most picture-perfect spots in Santorini. Book a table on the terrace at Ammoudi Fish Tavern (open April-October, it’s one of the best restaurants near Oia) where you can tuck into fresh seafood as the sky turns crimson.
Rental car or taxis in Santorini. I am staying in Santorini for 2 days next week. I am curious whether it would be more efficient/cheaper to get taxis or to rent a car. My hotel is quite rural and out of the way so buses are out of the question!
Mar 25, 2020 · The settlement of Akrotiri remained buried and unknown for thousands of years. In the 1860s, earth and ash from Santorini started to be mined to be used for the building and insulation of the Suez Canal. There the workers accidentally stumbled across parts of the old stone walls and ancient artifacts of the lost city.

Feb 18, 2021 · An old saying goes that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, and this is true on Santorini. The beginning of the month can still feel extremely wintery, with heavy showers, but weather starts to turn sunny as the month progresses. Temperatures are creeping up (expect an average of 50 to 61°F / 10 to 16°C) and this is the last
Yea the ride up/down the Santorini port (athinos) is something else. I agree with having prearranged taxi also called a transfer locally. The port to your hotel should cost $45 Euros. Read below for more details about the overall decision-making, excursion, and experience on Santorini. Research told us that there were 3 ways to the top of Fira - donkey, walking, or cable car. Research also told us that depending on how many ships were in port that the wait for cable car may be several hours, in blistering heat.

And once you are there you will realize ALL the Cyclades islands have whitewashed buildings, cliffs, and spectacular water views. While Naxos handles the beaches, Mykonos is better beach-wise than Santorini. In my experience Santorini is WAY more touristy than Mykonos even though Mykonos IS touristy. Santorini IS the view, and that's what sells it.

Around 1.7km from the archaeological site of Akrotiri is one of Santorini’s best-known swimming spots. As the name suggests, the Red Beach (Kokkini Paralia) is famous for the iron ore deposits in the volcanic rock face and the rust-coloured pebbles on the beach – although in reality there is a whole palette of colours on the beach.

Also Psarou is worth a stroll, it can be magnificent or Meh depending on the music. Psarou beach restaurant and Psarou mall with the lush gardens is worth a stroll, though just for window shopping for most of the people who can even afford Mykonos. The beach beds are VERY expensive, you can stay in the ones of the next beach bar.

Questions: -Is it recommended to fly to Santorini the same day from Athens after going through customs? Should I book ahead, or book when I arrive? Is there a better way to do this? -Hotel recommendations on Santorini for ~$200/night for 3 nights? I’ve heard the cave hotels are an interesting experience. Worth the extra cost for romantic getaway?

Santorini? Worth it or not? What do people think about the luxury hotels in Santorini? Any recommendations? Already going to Greece and have Amanzoe booked, but debating on whether we add a few days to the tail end of the trip. Thanks! Vote. 0 comments. Best.
Grace looks amazing! Thanks. Will definitely research this further, as it’s in our price range for Santorini. By far the most $$$ for any of our hotels in Greece but figure Santorini is a once in a lifetime visit. We had been looking at Astra next door to the Grace but they are now sold out so back to the drawing board.
Though Santorini was beautiful, it was a little bit overwhelming with so many tourists and selfie sticks everywhere. My favorite was walking around Santorini right at sunrise; Oia was practically empty! Folegandros was the most authentic experience mainly because most of the people we encountered were older locals and they spoke mainly Greek.
We're thinking about going to Santorini on Sunday and returning Monday. I'm not really sure it is warm enough in March to worry about the beach. We're mostly interested in seeing the white-washed buildings and relaxing. What's making this complicated is a) no high speed ferries appear to run in March, so ferry time is too long for our short trip.
